Hello and welcome to the home of the Write Path International Collaborative Writing Project. I'm Bev Humphrey, the project's founder and you can find more information about me here.
Each year (apart from 2020) I ask published children's authors to write a story starter for children to work on, Students from all over the world write together to continue and complete 6 of these stories per day and the day runs like this:
The Write Path is open to pupils from year 5 to year 8.Taking part can help you meet statutory requirements at KS2 for English by encouraging children to ' write legibly, fluently and with increasing speed' and to 'note and develop initial ideas'. It can also be a good vehicle to work on ' describing settings, characters and atmosphere and integrating dialogue to convey character and advance the action. For KS2 Computing the project would certainly help pupils to ' understand computer networks including the internet', especially 'the opportunities they off er for communication and collaboration'. Working collaboratively with children in the UK and other parts of the world could be used as a way to focus attention on 'locating the world's countries' and on 'naming and locating counties and cities of the United Kingdom'.
In KS3 English Write Path will help your students to 'write for a wide range of purposes and audiences including stories and other imaginative writing' and in Computing it will encourage them to explore ' a range of ways to use technology safely, respectfully, responsibly and securely'. In Geography you could use the project to 'build on their knowledge of globes, maps and atlases' by looking up and researching locations of the other participants. The project can be useful when working on benchmarks for the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, in LIT 2 - 02a (contributes a number of relevant ideas, information and opinions when engaging with others0 or in LIT 1 - 20a (creates texts for a range of purposes and audiences selecting appropriate genre, form, structure and style) for example.
Group sizes - there is a maximum limit of 30 per group, some schools would like to work with a whole class in their one/one and a half hour time slot which is fine. 1 group = 1 time slot
Our next event will comprise of one Secondary day and one Primary day on the 4th and 8th of October to coincide with Libraries Week .
The cost of participating is £60 per group with a reduction for two groups from one school per event as follows:
1 group £60
2 groups £100

- Starter paragraphs/stanzas are published on the blog here on the website early in the morning as posts
- School taking part on the day have 1 hour to compose and post a continuation to each of the stories in the form of a comment on the blog
- Schools typically use students working in pairs, taking a story each pair but some schools will work as a group or class
- I am online all day (& night if necessary for overseas schools!) and can be contacted quickly via a chatbox on the website
