Who would have thought something like this would happen on an ordinary school day in October?
It had all started out the same as usual: Jason had crossed the main road and gone into the street opposite his.  This was actually walking away from school but Toby’s parents both left for work early and Jason had to make sure his friend was up and about.  Just like every morning Toby had messed around putting his school things together and Jason had asked himself for the millionth time why his friend couldn’t get organised the night before. Then they’d set off.  They’d had to wait ages to cross the main road and now they were hurtling down Marsh Lane trying to get to the school entrance before the second bell.
“Come on, step on it,” Jason shouted. “We don’t want another prefects’ detention this week.”
But they’d had to stop. There were several police cars blocking off the road.  Loads of their fellow students from Phoenix High were gathered behind some blue tape and there appeared to be smoke coming out of the ground.

At first they had thought that there had been a crash, but as they got closer pushing through the crowd of students the more they could smell it. Burning. By the time they got to the front of the crowd the smell was clear and then they saw why everyone had been stopped from going any further. They were right when they thought there had been a crash, but it wasn’t just any crash. It seemed that two cars had collided and both had damaged their fuel tanks and the fuel was now alight. It still didn’t explain why smoke was coming out of the ground…

Luckily it seemed that the drivers had gotten out but by the time Jason and Toby got to the front of the crowd they heard the ringing of the siren. Jason turned around and saw a fire truck coming down the road and the crowd of students quickly moved to the side making a path for the truck to go down so it could get to the crash site. Toby suggested they try and find a different way round to school but Jason declined, he couldn’t explain why but he just had a feeling that something bad was going to happen and that if he stayed then he might be able to help out.

As the firefighters tried to put out the fire it seemed to have no effect as a matter of fact it seemed to do the opposite. The more water they put on the fire the bigger it got. It didn’t seem natural that’s for sure. Jason then thought that maybe he was wrong and should just try to find another way round, but as he turned around to walk away he heard a big bang…

Jason slowly turned around until he saw a cloud of roaring flames lighting up the sky. All of a sudden, a wave of panic crashed over his body. Where was toby? He was hear a second ago. Everything had happened so fast. He frantically twisted around and saw a lifeless body lying on the frozen, damp floor. He desperately screamed for help-fearing the worst for toby-but with no answer; he pushed his way through the swarm of people crowding around his friend’s motionless, near to be corpse. Yet again, Jason tried to call for help, it was hopeless. Despite the hundreds of people distracted by the gazing flames. Inside they were alone. Isolated.

To Jason’s surprise he heard a weak, whisper coming from behind him,

“I’m sorry but I just had to go after the man who did this.”

Then his last breath. Grasping onto his friends lifeless hand,

“Don’t go “he begged knowing that he couldn’t be heard. Toby was gone.

Feeling like he had let his only friend down a tear fell slowly down his cheek.

Which suddenly turned into a river of tears flooding down his face, he was determined to get revenge on the person who did this to his dearest friend…

Memories flooded his mind as he remembered all the great times they had had together. Toby was gone. Gone Forever…
The temptation for revenge saturated his mind. He tried thinking who or where that man could be, all he knew is that he was out there, and that he would find him. He stumbled out of the crowds and saw a figure accompanied by a dark wolf sprinting into the distance.

A wave of anger engulfed him. He dashed after the person without a care, other than finding his best friend’s assassin. Suddenly, the huge, black wolf turned round and leapt at him. His vision blurred as the wolf clawed his face. He fell to the floor, out cold with blood pouring from his wounded head.
He woke up his head throbbing with pain. Reaching for his head he felt blood oozing through his fingers. He couldn’t believe he had lost his only friend’s murderer. He sat up and looked around, it looked like he was in hell. A trail of dark blood led in the direction of the graveyard.
Leaving the scene behind he gathered all his courage and stumbled towards the cemetery. It was cool and dark, unlike the fire ridden street behind him. He heard footsteps approaching and dived behind the nearest moss-covered grave.
Peering over the top, he saw a shadow-like, hooded figure with a murky-coloured wolf beside him. He was not the only one there. There was another man, this time wearing denim jeans and a camo jacket, his hair long and greasy. They were whispering but Jason could only make out a few words.
“Well done.....who’s next…..Chicago?.....how dare you!
‘Chicago,’ Jason thought ‘That’s where I’m going on Thursday to visit Dad!’ Then he noticed that they had gone. He stood up his mind racing. How had they gone without him noticing? He spun round to see both men watching him. The hooded man approached and before he could run, hit him over the head. Jason blacked out… Ben and Alex, Reading School

Jason woke up in a cold sweat, lying in his bed. “It must have been a nightmare”, he muttered under his duvet. Until he saw a white figure almost like a ghost, hovering above his bed.
“Hello, Jason. I see that you have awoken from your first nightmare,” the ghost spoke in a harsh tone. Although it was hard to tell, it was a voice of a young girl. “Ready for the second one?” Jason felt woozy and suddenly he crashed onto his pillow.
Jason, yet again, was standing over his dead friend’s corpse as if he had gone back in time or even teleported. He saw the figure and the wolf escaping and took no time in chasing after them at full speed. This time he almost caught the running murderers, and saw the wolf’s master’s… white hooded clothes!? Weren’t they dark before he woke up?
“Let’s go, Cynthia,” the figure ordered, gesturing to the wolf. They ran, all of a sudden, faster than Jason’s eyes could process. He had lost the person and the wolf, who was called Cynthia apparently. He looked at the road sign, which no longer said Marsh Lane, but Cynthia Chase. A different sign? A different dream? Did Cynthia chase mean to chase the wolf? Chicago mentioned in the graveyard? So many questions Jason needed an answer for!
Suddenly, the man in denim, who had crept up on him from behind, punched him across the head. Both Jason’s mind and body started spinning and before he could think he awoke back in his bed. Does this mean he keeps repeating the same dream? The gloomy white spectre was still standing in front of Jason as if it had been waiting for him…

“Jase-” the white ghost looked almost sad for a moment until she morphed back into the familiar creepy spectre staring into his soul.

“Who are you? Why am I here?” Jason cried out. A single tear rolled down the ghost’s face.

“Amy?” Jason asked, or at least thought he asked, because he didn’t know why he asked her. He had met an Amy before…had he? Furrowing his brow he tried to remember. Suddenly ‘Amy’ was right in front of him.

“Jason,” she whispered as she carefully touched his forehead. Fire engulfing a road. Smoke suffocating. Tears on his face. Wine bottles being thrown. Bruises on his legs. White coats offering him a hand. Comfort. FEAR. Images and emotions flooded Jason’s mind. FEAR.

“I remember! I remember! These people aren’t real, this world is a lie! ” he said. “Amy take me home! Take me home! I don’t want to be here anymore! ”

Suddenly he woke up but not with ‘Amy’ and not at his house, but with some other man. “Where am I”, the words came out before he knew it. He was swiftly greeted by a split second image of a metal bat coming towards him at blinding speeds, “you said they weren't going to wake up” …… “no I'm not doing this if there conscious are you mad” ……. Then blinding light. “No for the last time we are going to as- oh he’s awake now. Hello, Mr.Jason.” “Where am I?” Jason said confused. “Ho…” but before he could finish Jason punched him in the face with all his might. “WHERE IS TOBY?!” Jason screamed. “Okay I see you are still under the effects of the serum, unfortunately” replies the man, “Inject him!”
Jason wakes again to see a man with a camo jacket standing over him… with a wolf. “YOU KILLED TOBY!” Jason screamed. “I did not,” replied the man calmly. “Actually I’m here to get you out. And by the way, your town was an experiment.” “What do mean b\y was?” “They are ending it.” Jason had to process all of this. He was dizzy from all that just happened and he remembered his old self, so careless and free. Now Jason knows that his ordinary life… was a lie.
Jason the man, and the wolf got out of the room. All he felt was fear, and something was telling him to run. He came across a sign that said “Experiment Lab 0-842.” Jason realised that he was in the experiment facility. The sirens went off. Jonas felt his conshinis fade away, but the exit was right there. As he was getting closer, more people were chasing him. Finally, the exit was right there. Next thing he knew gunshots rang in the air. The man in the camo jacket fell first, then the wolf. Before Jason could cry, he opened the exit. He was free.
