Mina Tooke was 11 before she went abroad for the first time. And that was an accident.  Mina had been living happily with her mum, dad, brother Tom and their dog, Scooby, in the same house in South East London since the day she was born. On this eventful day during the summer holidays, Mina woke up wondering what on earth to do as the rain pelted down outside and her 8 year-old brother played noisily with his annoying friends, Dylan and Raj, who had been on a sleep-over for Tom's birthday. Today, Tom and his mates would be allowed to do pretty much whatever they wanted, that's always what happened in their house on birthdays. Mina looked at the present she'd bought Tom, something she'd picked it up in a junk shop on Peckham High Street. It was a sort of lamp, old and rusty, but Tom loved things like that, anything he could take apart, put back together, fiddle with and make good.  What Mina didn't know - and what she would find out any second now - was that all the lamp needed to change their lives forever was for a boy with a birthday to rub it with his grubby sleeve and make a wish. It wasn't long before Tom was wishing he'd thought more carefully about what he was demanding as he attacked the rusty magic lamp with the cuff of his favourite football shirt..

Tom was scrubbing away at the rusty old lamp that Mina had got him. In his mind he thought it would just be an ordinary lamp, but as soon as he was about to ask his question a dark misty red smoke had started to rise out of the dodgy looking lamp. Within seconds there was some type of humanoid creature floating in front of their very own eyes. They couldn’t believe what they were witnessing in their own home.

Before anyone could say a word, Tom instantly asked the humanoid creature to make it rain blood like droplets everywhere. He was shocked by the words coming out of his mouth, it was like something was controlling him.

With a snap of the creature’s fingers Tom’s wish was granted and within seconds the streets were coloured red. The creature had started to laugh demonically in their faces.

“Once a wish is granted,” it said, “There is no going back, no matter how hard you or anyone else tries to change it.”

Tom felt the uncontrollable urge to make another wish but he knew it would be worse than the last.

“For my second wish I wish for an everlasting darkness!”

“Tom, what are you doing?” Mina screamed. She was shocked by how demonically dark Tom’s wishes had become.

“I don’t know what’s happening, I can’t stop myself…”

As Tom was about to make his third wish, he looked to Dylan, Raj and Mina pleading with his eyes for them to stop him.

“My next wish is…”

At the same time they all shouted: “NO!!”

“Ignore them,” The demon boomed, “Tom what is your final wish?”

He turned to the creature and said: “For my third wish I want the dead to be alive once again.”

Darkness shadowed the world, hour by hour.

“You will regret this, you know,” murmured the demonic Genie, “Your life will depend on it. I am giving you three hours to think on it.”

And with an explosion of red smoke, he disappeared back into the rusty, old lamp.

The children stared at each other in astonishment.

“What are we going to do?” said Mina, quietly.

Her parents came into the room with a smirk on their faces.

“We are going to the zoo!” they said, cheerfully.

The children raced to the car, excited to go.

They had been driving for five minutes when Dad took a wrong turn down an abandoned, dark road. There was a sudden flash of an anonymous, dark figure standing right in front of them. Dad swerved and smashed into a tree, setting the car up in flames and killing both of the parents. The children evacuated the blazing car immediately, and stepped out onto the bloody path, and gaped mournfully at the car. As the car was on its side, their parents fell out of the smashed window, and into the fire. The fire expanded, and two black, faded silhouettes came out of it. It was someone familiar, but they couldn’t quite grasp who it was.

“Get the lamp!” Tom shouted to Mina.

Mina grabbed it, rubbing it vigorously. The genie appeared.

“Grant the wish, now!” Mina roared, dismally.

So he did. An explosion occurred, wiping out the entire neighbourhood. Will the dead actually rise?

Out of the smoke, a dark liquidy figure came out. The army of the dead led by a creepy clown…
Following him was a red mist and the rest of the army with chainsaws. The clowns were whispering in a low, shaky voice, “Give me the lamp!”
Mina, Tom, Dylan and Raj, wading at this point with blood dripping from their necks pleading for their lives.
The clown and the army advanced up the street towards them; their chainsaws whirring with their razor sharp teeth spinning like wheels. Then a voice from behind them shouted “Get in the van!”
The children turned and ran, the army at their heels. A turret popped out of the roof of the van it shoot green lazars at the oncoming army. The children jumped into the back the anonymous driver got in the passenger seat and the driver stomped on the gas pedal, and they sped away.
The driver turned around and said hi my name is Ali A and the guy next to me is James Charles. Then the door ripped open and the clown said “hello there Tom”…

Tom froze, his eyes reflecting the killer clown’s blood-thirsty gaze. Tom tried to fight the hypnotizing gaze but his effort was futile. Thinking of ways to escape the deranged clown, Tom’s face was contorted with agony. The clown slowly pulled a sharp, serrated knife from his back pocket. Tom felt his heart beating faster than ever, his face turned pale.
“Goodbye Tom!” The clown attempted to plunge the knife but in a blink of an eye the car was empty. In a dark gloomy alley Tom was standing with Dylan and Raj.
“What happened?” Dylan asked after seeing him.
“I...I,” his answer was interrupted by a whisper from the back of his head. The head of James Charles. It was the demon trying to contact him.
“Have you decided yet?” Came the raspy yet familiar coarse voice of the Demon.
“Wha...?” His jaw dropped, eyes closed, heart pounded.
But then a miracle had occurred. He was saved by a sudden bang. The demon was gone! They all rushed to James who fell on the blood-stained concrete ground. The back of his head was normal once again. However, he did not respond, his pulse had stopped. He was dead.
Tom felt tears brim up but he pushed the emotions away and ran.
“TOM!!” A voice came from the mist. Hesitant, Tom tentatively walked forward.
“DON’T WORRY! ITS’ME......” This voice sounded familiar, it was like he heard it when he was a mere baby. “IT’S NOW OR NEVER...” The voice faded into the darkness. Tom, Dylan and Raj, despite their nerves, entered the desolate building.
There was a loud bang...

A dark and gloomy shadow appeared around the corner, Tom’s heart pulsated as the shadow gradually grew. The features of the mysterious shadow’s face began to look familiar…

It was James. Back from the dead. Except it wasn’t. His deformed face twisted into a snarl grin. The blood drenched four stuttered as they tried to get their words out. Had he come back from the dead? Before they could say a single word James or whatever he was- screeched hysterically “Hi Sisters!”
Their immediate instinct was to run; and so they did. With their hearts pounding and their eyes blurry with tears, they stumbled towards what they thought was shelter. As they came closer to the shelter, they could make out the fuzzy silhouettes of two figures in the distance. Who was it and why were they there?
As the distance in between them and the shelter shortened, the two figures became more and more like their parents and they were only a small step away, a loud bang was wringing in their ears as the eventually blacked out!

They awoke with hammering headaches pulsating through their brains; as their vision adjusted, they noticed that their fists were bound together with thick ropes. Lifting his weary gaze, Tom took into account the obnoxious killer clown wielding a whirring chainsaw in his white-gloved hands and with a cold, rhythmic and mocking tone he spoke “You didn’t really think you could escape my wrath… Did you?”

Tom looked
up to see the killer clown towering over him. The clown lunged forwards,
chainsaw in hand and Tom blacked out. He couldn’t feel anything. Then he knew,
he was dead. All of a sudden, his eyes opened again, he went to punch the
clown, but he disappeared in a puff of smoke, he had vanished. Tom was alone.

Tom looked around him. He was in an unusual looking room, with mops and other cleaning items scattered around. He tried moving his hands to find that they were tied up with handcuffs. In the darkness, Tom could make out a glistening shape on the floor. All of a sudden, his hands were free and everything other than the shining shadow had disappeared. The shape was the rusty old lamp. It was in the furthest corner away from him.

“Urgh.” Tom heard a groan coming from behind him. It was his friend, Raj.

“What’s going on?” Tom exclaimed. But the only response he got, was a long moan and something about Dylan and his army of monsters led by James Charles. Out of nowhere, James had the lamp and was back in reality. Raj tried to sit up, so James dropped the lamp onto the cold, hard floor. Suddenly, James started to fade away as he looked at the crack in the lamp. Tom grabbed it and as he looked at the lamp in his hands he knew what he had to do.

As Tom dirtied up his football shirt with dirt and grime from the old lamp, there was an eerie glow that appeared from inside the lamp. Tom soon found himself in some glowing room with no one to be found. He could still see flashes of his family members and friends in the room but they soon disappeared along with the lamp and it soon transformed into a large figure..
“Where am I” said Tom.
“You have found the Gate Between Worlds” replied a booming voice.
As Tom looked around he saw a small light in the distance. He felt as if it were calling him towards it. He felt a strong urge to walk toward it, and as soon as he got close it sucked him in.
Back at the house Mina, Dylan, and Raj were staring at the lamp which was now cracked in half with smoke radiating off of it.
“What… What happened.” said Dylan and Raj in perfect unison.
“What happened to Tom, where did he go.” said Mina.
Suddenly the ground began to shake and the cars outside started to honk. Items were falling off the shelves, windows were shattered, and the neighbors were running and screaming in terror.
Tom suddenly found himself in a different place, a place he has never even heard of before. He could not describe what he saw, it was as if the entirety of the life he knew was now completely gone. The figure was now visible and he could see a face, a face that was filled with light that was blinding. It approached him in long, intimidating strides.
Tom said “ Where am I, I want to go home.”
The figure replied “It is simple, fix my lamp”
“How can I fix your lamp when I do not even have it.” questioned Tom.
It replied “I will bring it to you.”
Then the lamp suddenly appeared along with Mina, Dylan, and Raj. Tom then picked it up and then rubbed it with the same sleeve as before and the the large crack filled back with a golden metal. They suddenly found themselves at home just like they were before, and everything was back to normal. The ground was no longer shaking, the cars were no longer honking, windows were repaired, all of the things that fell off the shelves were back on them, and everyone back in their houses just as they were. They did not recall what happened, and they did not remember where they went, they just went on with the day like nothing happened.
