Outside in the dark, drizzly night, a rocket exploded, sending showers of multi-coloured sparks blazing across the sky.
Josh couldn’t even be bothered to go to the window to look. He shrugged himself into his duffle coat and decided that he had never felt less like going to a Bonfire Party in his life. It was being hosted by Henry and he’d invited the whole class. He’d spent the previous few days boasting about how much his parents had spent on the occasion. There would be top-of-the-range fireworks, a barbecue and even a proper bonfire with a guy and everything. To Josh, who could barely afford a packet of sparklers, this was hard enough to take... but the absolute killer was that Kate was going to be there and Henry had been been very quick to tell as many people as possible that he and Kate were now ‘going out together.’ And it wasn’t as if Josh had any claim on Kate - indeed, he’d hardly even spoken to her. But there was something about her that interested him, that made him want to know her a whole lot better. And that was surely never going to happen now.

With a sigh of resignation, Josh let himself out of the back door and started walking… then turned in surprise as...

Then turned in surprise as...a cold shiver cascaded down his spine. An icy breeze lingered in the bleak mist for he could no longer feel his coat draped around his slumped shoulders. It was gone. His protector was gone. His guardian was gone. Cluelessly, he was stumbling along the frosty flagstones. No were to turn, no were to go, except the dreaded party. Lights flashed, popped and crackled. Ten minutes had passed. A growing dread was rising in his chest. Looking up at the rusty wrought iron gates, his feet were dead, frozen to the unforgiving floor. He couldn’t move, he wouldn’t move. But he must. Gingerly he edged open the gate. He could see people having the best night of their lives. It was creeping in to his dark soul, snatching it with icy fingers, imbuing his heart with malice. For he has never felt that happiness could be brought through money. As he slumbered into the heart of the party he wished his life could be as stunning as this, it was soul crushing. Then he caught a glimpse of Kate wearing his black duffle coat…

Then he caught a glimpse of Kate wearing his black duffle coat…

He stepped up to her and a darkness loomed over them; one hundred pairs of eyes bored into their souls. Shouts and jeers from the crowd filled the air. As Josh was about to speak, a firework burst into the sky. Mere seconds later more went off.

Everyone froze in amazement; no one was watching the bonfire

uddenly flames engulfed the yard. Several people screamed as they disappeared into the smoke. The flames roared. “Run into the house!” Henry exclaimed heroically, though inside he was cowering in fright. Josh grabbed Kate’s hand just as fire erupted from the blaze towards where she was standing.

They sprinted through the house and found themselves at the gate. It was locked. As the flames approached them Kate whispered,” I love you,” and kissed him. Josh felt his face go as red as the blaze. As quickly as it had started the flames died down into a heap of ash. When they looked back at the house it resembled a medieval ruin. Only a handful of people had escaped the blaze unharmed. Many people had been scarred and others were still uncounted for.

“You can thank me later,” whispered a mysterious figure...

Ever since that night, Josh pondered on the fact of the identity of the figure. It was hard to tell what this figure looked like as the engulfing flames affected his vision but from what he could tell the outline of the figure was an adult male. He was wearing a black leather coat so he was prepared for this occurrence, a pair of black trousers and black boots; he wondered if this accident was his doing.

Josh’s curiosity sent him back to the tragic incident, which he witnessed nights before. The burnt grass and toxic fumes covered the entire area. The burnt wood and torn clothes covered up a leather coat…

Returning home from the left-overs from the bonfire, he kicked his ash covered boots off his exhausted feet, jumped on to the sofa and turned the T.V. on. As he began his homework for the next day he was oblivious to what was being murmered. Becoming tired, he glanced up at the screen a broadcast flashed up.

"Henry Dowell reporting live from North Chester, complaints have being coming in to the County Police Station about a mysterious figure going round West and East Chester becoming the cause of many tragedys and crime scenes. The only evidence anyone can find at crime scenes or incedent vacinities is a black leather coat. If anyone has any evidence of the recent bonfire explosion please either call: 770334628679 or take the evidence to the County Police Station. I'm Henry Dowell that's the end of 7 'o' clock News."

Josh hoped no one took that jacket or there was no chance of any one finding out who the figure is......

Josh thought aloud, "I need to tell this company about my witness of the event."
He dialed the number that was shown on the news. " Hello, I am calling to report the fact that I am a witness to the fire explosion," Josh exclaimed, " I believe that I know who started the fire."
" Okay, could you describe what they looked like for me?" the person over the phone questioned.
"Well, the place was enveloped in fog but I can tell you as much as I remember." "He was ..."

Josh was interrupted by a loud knock at his front door. Slowly, he rose from his black, leather couch. Then, he opened it. "Hello Josh" the spooky figure bellowed. Josh recognized his midnight black, leather jacket and boots. He froze in shock and after a few seconds, Josh muttered, " How do you know my name?"
" I've been watching you for a long time now Josh, I must know more about you that you do," he explained in a mysterious voice. Josh did not know what to do at this point, he began to close his creaky, oak door. All of a sudden, the man pushed open the door before Josh could lock it. " GET AWAY FROM ME," Josh screamed,"Who are you?"
" Do you not recognize me young boy?" "It's me, Guy Fawkes" the man exclaimed with pride.
" B-b but how, I thought you were dead!" Josh muttered.
" Don't worry," he cried," Everybody else did..."
